Freda’s Nursery is a well established childcare setting that has built up an excellent reputation across Craven.

Freda’s Nursery provides a stimulating environment where children are encouraged to reach their full potential through our imaginative & fun indoor & outdoor areas, designed to cover all children’s needs – socially, emotionally, physically & educationally.
This combines with our valued, approachable & receptive staff team to ensure that our settings are places you can put your faith in.
Freda’s Nursery was originally known as Marshfield Playgroup, and was based in Marshfield House, Kirkgate, Settle. Where it was run by its founder, Mrs Freda Soames. The group was first officially registered in May 1973.
Freda’s is now located in the former Settle Middle School building. We are a registered charity, governed by voluntary management trustees.
We consist of 3 rooms, The Bumblebee room, The Caterpillar room and the Butterfly room. We have a large outdoor play area and an artificial grass area for the younger children.
We have close links to all local Primary Schools.
This room is for our younger children it is decorated in neutral colours and has cosy areas for children to play comfortably feeling secure in a home from home environment. The children have access to a selection of treasure baskets and loose parts to explore alongside toys and equipment to enhance their learning experience. The bumblebee children eat and sleep in their room.
This is our biggest area consisting or 2 rooms, one for messy play and eating and the other cosier room for role play, reading, small world play etc.
This is the newest addition to our nursery, in this room children have access to lots of opportunities to encourage confidence, independence and get them ready for school.
We have three outdoor areas for the children to enjoy. A small outdoor play area created with our youngest children in mind. This has direct access to our Bumblebee room, enabling the smallest members of our group to free flow in and out of the setting.
We have a small allotment area. The children enjoy planting and growing a variety of fruit and vegetables.
Our large outdoor play area incorporates a willow den, pirate ship climbing frame, water wall and play houses. All this as well as lots of grass and tarmac to run and play on.
All the staff at Freda’s are dedicated to providing the highest quality care, fun & education for your child.
My little girl had a great time at Freda’s, she was there from 18months till the age of 4 she absolutely loved it!, all the staff are really friendly and great with the kids. I love that the staff are really helpful to the parents, not just the kids, I’ve often asked for advice on how to deal with certain things to do with my child. They are 100 percent supportive. The fun the the kids have here is brilliant. My little girls came home with lots of arts and crafts. And she always came home with a big smile on her face. I would highly recommend this nursery.

Freda's is a wonderful setting with friendly, caring and supportive staff. All of my children have thoroughly enjoyed their time here and loved all of the various activities that they are provided with. I couldn't recommend Freda's enough for an early years setting.

Highly recommend this lovely nursery. My daughter first joined in September 2022 and has come such a long way since. Her confidence has surged, her social skills and independence too. She has greatly benefited from her time at Freda's, enjoying various trips out and time in various play settings with the nursery. We are very sad to be finishing our daughter's time at Freda's and would like to thank all the staff for their brilliant job caring for her. Out little boy is excited to join in September. Thank-you to all the Freda's team.
